This relative of ginger is native to India and grows in other tropical areas around Asia, South America, and the Pacific Islands. They grow in enclosed pods in groups of 17-20 seeds and are known for their pungent aroma and a strong, complex, spicy-sweet, lemony flavor. Typically, cardamom can be found in East Indian, Asian, Scandinavian, and Middle Eastern cuisines.
Cooking Notes
- Comes in a 1 oz. package.
- Use to flavor stews, curries, poultry, duck, lentils, meat, and rice.
- Sprinkle sparingly on your chicken with a bit of cinnamon for a unique, exotic spin on this white meat.
- Give hot chocolate or eggnog an exotic spin by adding a pinch of cardamom, along with some cinnamon and nutmeg, and topping with whipped cream.
- Add some cardamom to your coffee grounds and brew as usual for sweet-spicy notes in your morning pick-me-up
