Of the forty varieties of mustard in existence—the second most popular spice in the USA, after peppercorn—three in particular are most popular in the kitchen: black, brown, and white. Dijon mustard comes from brown mustard, which gives it a distinctive, spicy flavor that is more complex than regular mustard. As a relative of cabbage, mustards are rich in calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorous, as well as many minerals.

 

Cooking Notes

  • Comes in a 2 oz. package
  • To reconstitute, blend 1 part Dijon mustard powder to 1 part water (by weight).
  • Pairs well with chicken, egg dishes, and seafood.
  • Add some zip to your mac and cheese by adding a dash of Dijon powder to the finished product.
  • Make your own special condiment by adding some of this to your favorite style of mayonnaise.
  • Make into a chicken marinade by combining reconstituted Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, and some onion powder.
  • Use as a condiment on sandwiches.
